In your opinion, what is the heaviest song ever?
#21
Dopethrone by Electric Wizard is a very heavy album...maybe not in the usual sense of power and loudness but its' slow tempo of heaviness is excellent !
vizsla826 Wrote:It would go something like this.
Heaviest Black Metal - Tie between Emperor - In the Nightside eclipse and Burzum - Filosofem
Heaviest Death Metal - Death - Human
Heaviest Doom Metal Tie between - Ahab - Call of the wretched sea and Sleep - Sleep's Holy Mountain.
I can't guess for thrash as I haven't listened in a while and I can't guess for power because I haven't got enough of that.
And of course I'm talking about albums.

I think Arch Enemy's Rise of the Tyrant is pretty much heavy for me.

Scenes from Hell by Sigh is quite heavy. Also Gojira's song Vacuity, and Death's Lack of Comprehension could be contenders as well.

For me it's maybe the eponymous Black Sabbath track.

This is it. The definition of "heavy" in my opinion.

You're going to think I'm crazy, but the heaviest thing I've ever heard was the first six and a half minutes of "2112" by Rush. It was incredibly heavy.

^ Great choice! You're not crazy Gemini! You just have good taste in music! At MD we do not knock other peoples choices very often because music is a personal and subjective topic like all of the arts! Cool

In terms of distortion, tempo and overall loudness and aggression, definitely Possessed's The Exorcist from Seven Churches album.

Everyones definition of heavy is sure to vary...the song that, to me, conveys the most aggressive / powerful / purposeful / intense / violent emotion is Need Money by Dance Gavin Dance. Many of you will hate this the first time you hear it because it relies heavily on screamed vocal techniques, but I assure you it is worth a full and attentive listen. The guitar and drum work is INSANE, transitioning from spastic swing rhythms that are hard to get your head around at first and then come together and ascend to what might be the most driving and testosterone-laced guitar part I've ever heard. The screaming has a cool flow to it once you acquire a taste and the clean vocalist is a soulful god of sorts.
