LITTLE RICHARD "little richard is back: and theres a whole lotta shakin' goin' on" vinyl, 1964
his seventh studio album.
started with his rock and roll sounds back in 1949, gave up in 1957 and went all Gospel/Religious on us.
he was coaxed by his record company to go back to his rock roots with this one.
nothing original on here, all covers, I don't have a problem with the old rockers doing covers as they all did it
back in the day. love a third of these covers, liking the remainder.

so,
I visited my parents today for my mums birthday and my dad handed me five more vinyl albums from his collection that he found in a suitcase in a cupboard since I last went over there:
heres the list:
Linda Ronstadt - simple dreams
Bob Seger - against the wind
Jean Michel Jarre - oxygene
Bjorn/Benny and Tim Rice - chess (OST)
Sgt Barry Sadler - ballads of the green berets
==========================================
back to the LP plays...
LONG JOHN BALDRY "let the heartaches begin" vinyl, 1968:
his third studio album
im not a big fan of his songs in general but i love his voice.
seems to me to be a bigger influence on other artists than a star in his own right.
nothing bad on here but nothing really stands out for me:
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

^^I've only ever had his "It Ain't Easy" album. Fabulous voice.
My favourite track of his (which isn't on the above album) is his rendition of "Morning Dew" - best version IMHO ... may have mentioned this before ....
(Re your latest acquisitions - I too have the Chess album, which was a freebie somewhere along the way, I think, and Oxygène.)

looking forward to hearing both of those (Chess/Oxygene),
im a big fan of Benny/Bjorn, up there with Lennon/McCartney and Brothers Gibb as writers of "pop perfection".
JMJ, going in with pretty much a clean slate and an open mind.
as im curious for both those albums I have already put them to the front of the pile

SGT BARRY SADLER "ballads of the Green Berets" vinyl, 1966
soft country, folkie tunes.
a collection of songs themed about the lives of military personnel, namely Green Berets
and the folks who went to fight the VC.
a couple of stand out tracks, the rest is average IMO.
the dude's personal life is way more interesting than his records:
was actually a Green Beret himself, got sent home from Nam after getting injured.
in 1978 was involved in an on going domestic situation with a country music manager whom he shot and killed,
due to mitigating circumstances he eventually served just 30 day in jail.
in 1984 he moved to Guatemala and in 1988 was shot in the head whilst in a parked vehicle but survived.
in late 1989 aged 49 he died in the US from complications from that head injury.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
side 1:
1..ballad of the Green Berets ***
2..im the lucky one **
3..letter from Vietnam *
4..badge of courage **
5..Saigon **
6..ballad of the nurses *

LLOYD PRICE "16 greatest hits...." vinyl, 1964
not the album cover i have, but i had to post one....
great singles artist, especially the ones he wrote himself.
had no idea he was the writer of "Lawdy Miss Claudy", nor was I aware he released it back in 1952
which makes him one of the pre-rock innovators alongside Chuck, Little Richard and Fats.
anyway,
the dude is still kicking, aged 87, the forgotten innovator of Rock And Roll.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
side 1:
1....stagger lee ***
2....lawdy miss claudy ***
3....just because ***
4....im gonna get married ***
5....i'll be a fool for you ***

NEIL DIAMOND "im glad youre here with me tonight" vinyl, 1977
Neil's eleventh studio set.
multi platinum as was the norm back then.
contains his solo version of "you don't bring me flowers" which he sung as a duet with Streisand a year later.
great album just don't see the point of the instrumental which opens the second side.
also of note, a superb cover of God Only Knows, he altered it enough to make it his own.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
side 1:
1....God only knows ***
2....let me take you in my arms again ***
3....once in a while ***
4....let the little boy sing ***
5....im glad youre here with me tonight **
side 2:
1....lament in D-major/dance of the sabres (instrumental) *

3....as if ***
4....you don't bring me flowers ***
5....free man in Paris **

was really hoping for a good clip for this song but couldn't find one from that era,
anyway, would make it into my top 10 Diamond tracks list (if I had one)

JERRY LEE LEWIS "breathless" vinyl, 1974
very disappointing after the Neil Diamond post...
a German release according to "amazon.com.uk"....
poorly recorded, sounds awful.
can hear what sounds like faint audience noises in the background on some tracks
so im assuming it could be a bootleg recording, even the cover looks pretty dodgy...
basically all rock covers on here except "breathless", have never heard of "herman the hermit" so not sure
about that one at all.
album had so much to be good for but alas...
abysmal album, not one track worthy to be heard again, shall put this one in my own File-13
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
side 1:
1, long tall sally *
2, johnny b goode *
3, breathless *
4, herman the hermit *
5, hi-heel sneakers *
side 2:
1, hound dog *
2, roll over Beethoven *
3, Maybelline *
4, flip,flop and fly *
5, I believe in you *
3s = 0
2s = 0

couldn't find any links from the album and im certainly not up-playing the album by playing
a decent clip that's not on here.

I have the vinyl too - nothing beats Hot August Night but this is definitely a good one.
