"what the **** is this baroque shit? WHERE'S THE REAL MUSIC?" drop the rose-tinted goggles.

World's End Girlfriend, Portico Quartet, Deep Puddle Dynamics (or really any Anticon release), mouse on the keys, Ben Frost, Saltillo, The Books, Gellers, Kashiwa Daisuke, Hauschka (he has an excellent album with Hildur Guðnadóttir), Efterklang, Valgeir Sigurðsson, Long Fin Killie, Boris, Kishi Bashi, Jesu, Worrytrain, Lauren Bousfield

I tried to refrain from anything too obvious like Flying Lotus who's dominating the LA scene right now or The Microphones since they get so much praise even though I think Phil Elverum's use of the absence of sound to simulate percussion is beyond riveting, as well as something like breakcore which would most likely produce an upturned nose despite some artists within experimenting wildly with time signatures. I don't like spamming names but I can do more if you want specifics

You and me both.
I am actually beginning to think that the powers that be/the media have desensitized people to intelligent, evocative, emotive music. Because if there are all these good bands out there, and I am sure that there are, why is no-one paying any attention to them. If the youth only have Kanye West to look up to no wonder it's all going south. God help us.

Incidentally, that happens to include the 90's as well. (Two and a half decades ago now)

don't knock Kanye, he said he's running for President next time round,
it will be a bigger farce than the Trumpty Dumpty machine that shows no sign of slowing down
after the results yesterday.
back to the question...
it wouldn't surprise me if I found out that the major labels throw money to the radio stations to get airplay,
ie: buy the airtime for their artists because no sel respecting DJ would promote such crap...or would they?

.........which is why I'm here What is sad is that even if people tell them that the music is bad, other people will tell them that its awesome because everyone has their own opinion on whatever it is that they are exposed to.
God bless you always!!!
