What Are You Listening To?

THE BAND "the collection" cd,1997.

i like this album, but cant see where the "genius" is supposed to be...nothing here that says "wow!" to me at all...
a couple of tracks i do love, some bad and some good, but overall nothing special from this Canadian group.
their best work IMO, is the session duties on Dylan's "blonde on blonde".
i dont like the falsetto style vocals on "i shall be released" or the jovial style of "long black veil"...they simply got those two songs wrong, theyre supposed to both be sombre affairs!
and Georgia On My Mind...crap!
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down...well, nothing comes close to Joan Baez' version IMO.
The Weight is still one of the finest tracks ever put down on tape IMO..but i prefer both River Hymn and Stage Fright on this one!

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: i shall be released
best track: river hymn

I have a best of set, but seems like it was quite different from this one
agree, always thought they were good, but not great
if not for hooking up with Sir Bob, don't think we would know of them

Bob Dylan - Desire. Favourite track is One More Cup of Coffee. Used to play it quite a lot in pubs back in the day when I still had hair.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

Coffee wasn't one of my favorites
didn't like the backing vocal

No idea! Just like the lyrics.

David Gilmour - David Gilmour - much ado about nothing. Pretty bland album. One or two tracks that I like but pretty much an easily forgettable album. 'About Face' was a much better effort.

By the way, the only Floyd connected album I do not have is Richard Wright's collaboration with somebody or other called 'Identity' by an outfit called Zee. Has anyone heard this? Which reminds me, has anyone got any Fischer Z albums?

Roger Waters - Radio KAOS. I like this album but I have to concede that the 'concept' does not really work. Still some interesting thoughts. Same is true of 'The Pros & Cons of Hitchiking'. Mr Waters had some really interesting ideas even if they were not fully fleshed out.

like you, the concept does not come over too well, but a good album nevertheless
