1978 live album from American band.

This is another that I had a copy of years ago. A revisit felt worthwhile.

Unfortunately my tastes have moved on, so no Buy List place for this.

Good version of (Don't Fear) The Reaper, though...

Their most recent, released in 2010.

SteveO recommended this one to me. He's trying to slip more of those growly vocals past me !! To be fair, there aren't many vocals on the album, so it isn't too much of a problem.

Metal isn't a big thing for me, so I'm undecided on this one. It's a borderline Buy Lister, but I might need another listen to make up my mind one way or the other. It's not too heavy, but does stray close to the boundaries of acceptability on occasion. At other times it's more Folk-Metallish, which is much more up my street.

That's what they call it in the music world FOLK METAL ......GENRES ! How else can you tell someone what to expect !!!!! I hate genres too, Crazy, but they're here to stay and there must be over a hundred of them by now ! If I told you to check out...for conversation's sake... say an album by Missie McWilliams wouldn't you ask me what kind of music she did ? I'd say blues...there's a genre...you have to have them to differentiate between the hundreds of music styles that the BANDS or ARTISTS have created, my friend, It's just the way it is !

Agalloch do all sorts of music,,,,folk style, metal. rock, etc...they're incredible !!! ..give em a listen mate ! There I just mentioned more genres to let you know what to expect ! We've always had genres in music from day one....classical, jazz, bluegrass, folk before rock n' roll !

If you enjoy folk metal (sorry Crazy_Horse)...lol....then you have to listen to a group from Switzerland - Eluveitie - album is Evocation 1: The Arcane Dominion...simply outstanding, my friend !!!!

I think you may enjoy Agalloch's The Mantle when you get to it ! No wonder they only release an album every two years ! Their instrumentation is awesome and you can see that they are perfectionists !

["The Great God Pan" is a decent opener, primarily in how the bold, open chords
covet and cloak O'Brien's drifting vocals, but "Coven Tree" immediately cranks up
the morbidity with its dire flute melodies, jarring start/stop riffs and Alia's more
desperate, soul-filled performance. The folk instrumental "The Hermit" spins
some Tull into the fray, and "My Demon Brother" is a total crushing Black
Widow/Sabbath style piece with desperately wants a lift in time back to the
early 70s, but you'll also notice that the guitars here also disperse heavier
distortion that wouldn't be out of place on a Witchcraft or Cathedral record. But
the true winners on this album are found deeper into its content, through the
retrofitted "Morning of the Magicians" and the enormous closer "Daughter of the
Sun", which is over 10 minutes long of frilly fuzz and desert-injected doom.
Special mention also for the "Night of Augury" and its swerving interplay of guitar
and organ, and layered vocal arrangement.]

I mostly agree with the above but I can see were repeated listening might get a
little boring on "Night of Augury" and "The Hermit".
