Sufjan Stevens - Michigan
The titles actually much longer, but for the sake of brevity... Recommended on here a long time ago by JonG, this is one of what was intended to be a series of 50 albums celebrating each of the US states. This one is a gentle series of vignettes inspired by or based on the state of Michigan, strangely enough. The project appears to have stalled somewhat, so it could appear to the more cynical that it was, in fact, a bit of a marketing ploy... The guy definitely has a lot of talent though, and this is a strong album.

I believe Stevens has released a new Christmas album. He has kept that tradition up. I see it takes about two years for you to check out my recommendations. Well, at least you get around to it. :

Morrissey - Kill Uncle

Jenny Lewis with The Watson Twins - Rise Up With Fists!!

Pere Ubu - Dub Housing
Late 70s American post-punk, which comes across like a strange relative of Talking Heads.

Beck - Midnite Vultures
I personally think that it's a criminally underrated album. Debra alone makes the album worth it. |
