ANATHEMA - We're Here Because We're Here (2010)

I have been a long time follower for the past ten years or so of this band from Liverpool, England. Anathema is comprised of two different families The Cavanaghs and The Douglases. This album with the somewhat silly title of We're Here Because We're Here is absolutely top drawer !

There is a lot of progressive rock, reminiscent somewhat of Pink Floyd. The singing and music here is very good because it's very good to borrow the album's title thread.

Lee Douglas's female vocals make this group rise to the top.

NIGHTWISH - Imaginaerum (2011)




This is the seventh studio album by Nightwish from Finland. This release has garnered rave reviews and one critic stated that it was one of the greatest musical pieces in history ! Quite a lofty praise but perhaps not far from the truth.

The album begins with a Finnish ballad but after that the songs are in English and sung beautifully by female vocalist Anette Olzon. There's everything here,Celtic rock, major orchestral movements, hard rock, folk, jazz passages and blues !

Interestingly the group wanted to call the album Imagine but changed their minds in respect to John Lennon's album/song.

Hey, can you guys keep a secret? Don't tell Jerome, ok? The man sent me a stack of dvd's a few months ago. Much
appreciated even though most won't play on my player. They do play on the computer. Anyway, buried in the middle of
that stack was this Fleetwood Mac cd. Poor chap is probably still looking for it. Now I don't have a damn cover
though. If anyone has an extra Feetwoor Mac Say You Will cover laying around, send it to me please. Passed on this
release when it came out. After an eight year layoff, didn't think they had anything left. I was wrong. Three
really great songs on here. Four really bad ones too. But an 18 song set clocking in at nearly 80 minutes makes up
for that. Some albums are half that. This is the groups 17th and last album. Buckingham, Nicks and Fleetwood are
back. I guess Christine McVie is not on here. The groups highest charting album since 1982's Mirage, #3 in the US,
#5 in the UK. The tracks are evenly split with Stevie and Lindsey. Stevie's voice has gotten a little too chipmunky
for me here, much prefering the Lindsey tracks. Although this album doesn't live up to those classics it turns out
better than I expected, and if pared down from the length (with only tracks of my choosing of course) could have
been a great one.

Dani and I agree on one thing about Fleetwood Mac...neither of us really like them that much, i would probably get a best of set when i see it on special...

must admit i do love Stevie as a solo artist, both Belladonna and her album from last year are classics IMO.

Don't worry MH. This is all part of a bigger plan. The reason I gave you all those discs is that the people on MD would think I am a very considerate, generous, old fart. The reality is that I re-sealed all the empty DVD cases and sold them to CH. He paid for all of them, in full, in advance........they should be arriving any day now. By the way, how are you getting on with deleting his account on MD? You're cutting it fine.

And it just so happens that I have an extra CD cover of 'Say You Will' - how's that for coincidence??? Enjoy the disc anyway. I meant to send you the DVD of the album. It's actually quite interesting. About how they made the music etc etc. So you've got the soundtrack and I've got the movie. We really have to get organised one day. I told you I needed therapy.

By the way I really like the last track of the album. One of Stevie's best efforts. She contributed quite a lot to the writing of this album. Auntie Nicks is not just a pretty face.

Kings of Leon - Only by the Night. This band is growing on me. They've been arounf fo a good while but I have only recently started to listen to their stuff. Some mediocre tracks but some good ones as well. I like the raw edginess of it all.

Surprised I even followed up with Plant after this one. With titles like Hip Ro Hoo and Kallalou Kallalou and Doo
Doo A Do Do, I shouldn't have been surprised. This is his third solo album and there are certainly no standouts.
Five passable tunes and four duds. Little By Little was the semi hit coming in at a weak #36 with the other single
of Sixes And Sevens getting my weak vote. The album made it to #20, based on the fact that it was Robert Plant no
doubt. Was always a big fan of Robert, but the heavy synthesizer blew this effort for me. Also some additional
vocals by some girl named Toni Halliday which are terrible. Apparently not many youtube fans of this album either,
as there are clips of only 3 tracks.
