THE OFFSPRING "americana" cd,1998.

near brilliant album by there so called "punk" guys.
almost half the album became hit singles for these guys who at the time were at the top of their creative/commercial game.
plenty of songs about relationships on here, includes the worldwide smash hit "pretty fly(for a white guy)"....as great as that track is, it is not the best one here this time round for me, that honour goes to a track that wasnt a single...Walla Walla.
five ***'s, five **'s and to end the album off two dislikes, but that aside, this album's rating borders the like/love rating.

A gift from a mate. A new found appreciation for these Finn brothers, having had only one Split Enz album, True
Colours. This compilation, first released in 1987 (mine is a re-issue) covers material from 8 of their 9 albums
(76-84), with the first missing. Seven of those albums went top 10 in New Zealand. While maybe not achieving
worlwide success, the Finn boys were at least recognized for their talents, both with this band and Crowded House.
Didn't know of the Phil Manzanera association with these guys. That's why I enjoy doing these reviews. I always
learn something new. He helped them get a major label deal and produced their second album. Achieving success in
their homeland and Australia led to a US tour with Tom Petty. Although the group would never make it in the states,
their albums did see some chart action here, even more than in the UK. Still well known at home, the boys have paid
their dues. This album serves as a good collection of their material for those unaware, like me.

Imposters, Attractions, whatever, they sound the same to me. Elvis's 21st album, and yes, he does deliver. This is
the latest one I have. A concept album, which I rarely get, a story about the impact on three woman’s lives of a
man with a hidden past. I don't know, I just listen to it. Two standouts in Monkey To Man and There's A Story In
Your Voice with Lucinda Williams helping out. Can't believe there's no clip for that gem. My woman Emmylou Harris
is on 3 tracks here, none are great, and Heart Shaped Bruise is the best. Can barely hear her on two of those tracks.
Nothing bad on this album. Not a great one but certainly a good one. Elvis comes through again. Rocking out or
chilling out, he can do it all. This man could probably be in my top 10 of all time, and my collection is yet to be filled up.
This one made #40 in the US and #73 in the UK.

California band that hit the big time rather sudden, with their debut album. That remains their finest effort for
me, but this third one has a couple of great tracks and only one clunker. Love Adam Duritz's Van Morrison vocals,
and a great performer, one of those I love to watch. Excellent lyrics which make Mrs. Potters Lullaby my favorite
on here, with the other love track being I Wish I Was A Girl. The lone dud track is one of those hidden ones coming
after a 3 minute gap (someone shoot whoever came up with this idea), something called Kid Things, which is
obviously not Adam singing. The only good thing about that is at the end where some dude keeps saying "thanks for
the weed man". Sounds like something straight off of a Dr. Hook album. You probably had to be there. The album made
#8 in the US and #19 in the UK with the single of Hanginaround at #22 here and my favorite failing to crack the
chart.
