SteveO Wrote:That brings a question in mind! Who in your opinion successfully gained recognition as an actor and singer? There are many! Barbara Streisand instantly comes to mind!
I agree with you Steve. Barbra is a great example of a wonderful singer and a good actress!! Believe it or not Willie Nelson is another. He was great in Honeysuckle Rose!! Loved that movie!! Hugh Laurie is another good musician and a wonderful actor!! Another is Bette Midler. She was great in Beaches and what a voice!!

Bob Dylan,Mick Jagger,David Bowie,Michael Hutchence,Phil Collins,Roger Daltry...all tried their hand at acting...

Roger was pretty good so was Phil and Bowie IMO

Dolly Parton - who could never quite shed her identity  - Tom Waits also pops up unexpectedly here and there - mostly in cameo roles though. ^David Bowie's filmography is pretty impressive.

Sister RebelGirl and I agree 100% on this. He's had 2 albums, both killer and neither a vanity production (big difference between a showcase perf and purely a vanity thing--all these backers didn't just do this to get paid--there's a level of commitment evident from dead-solid pros): http://www.allmusic.com/artist/hugh-laur...iscography << Not too shabby for a comedian and self-taught musician.

Some selected tunes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HrmAgYE-6k and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYnJrluzbQY << German skills are helpful for the comments and one in English is scathing (I don't agree with him AT ALL); gutsy 'bone player and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9chqFE5Qw8w

BONUS 1: His latest album complete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGfvEZ3-Iu0
BONUS 2: his previous album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCW_Zi_JfKc

I needed something to stimulate my Sunday morning and this sure did it. Thanks, Sister RebelGirl.

Admittedly a bit OTT operatic but anything else you don't like about Cher, C-H? I am not challenging you to defend, just wondering.

ive never liked her vocal tones, they sound too "butch/manly" for a female IMO...
then she turns into skanky trash in the 1980s on her comeback trail("if i could turn back time")...
Tina Turner never turned to trashy suggestiveness to make a huge comeback because she "had IT!" IMO
ive just never liked Cher as a singer, even with Sonny....

off the top of my head these are the singles sung by her

"gypsy's tramps and thieves"
"i got you babe"
"bang bang"

and thats about it.

again...
great actress in the couple of roles ive seen her in,
her portrayal in "mask" was superb, as was the movie.

i think that if Bowie was 25yrs younger he could have had the way-out/weird roles that Johnny Depp plays, assuming the great Depp wasnt around of course...
now,
lets add to the Depp comments...
superb charactor actor, but he has made/been in some terrible films over the years...
