Ah gotta love the draft. No shame in serving your country though. I hope you were lucky enough to miss Nam. Not that this has anything directly to do with music. Although politically oriented music and anti war were pretty much the theme of the 60s, a mean, aside from dropping 'CID and "Loving the one you're with".

No draft for me. Volunteer all the way. Proving you can love your country and like rock music.
Although I was hoping for Nam, they had this only son thing back then, so I ended up in Korea.
Never did do the acid thing, but I did love the one I was with.

I have always felt 80's music to be the best. I listen to 95% modern 'indie' music now, but the 80's will always have a place in my heart. Actually thinking about blogging about the 80's scene more tbh. It's inspiration is felt so strongly in today's chillwave scene.

Well, I am a youngen, but I grew up with the greatness of the 70s and 80s and I'm not kidding. It was great to grow up listening to a lot of the stuff my dad has (most notably a original Led Zeppelin IV vinyl) but also to the greatness of Lou Reed, Bowie (I know it spans over 2 decades but I do actually like his latter stuff more; hard to understand right?) and Husker Du and some other of that hardcore punk and moving into the alternative rock scene - moreso with stuff like Faith No More and Jane's Addiction.

IMO nothing really happened to the 80s but maybe the obvious misconception that the 80s was about new wave, glam rock and disco (which is actually a great style of music; but not musically obviously, more like it's the only type of music in which we can get a room full of people from around the world and they'd have no problem jiving to some disco. Anyway, it was the birth of post-punk and new wave as well as alternative rock and goth rock, and I still value Robert Smith's The Cure as the representation of my 80s experience especially with records like Disintegration and Wish.

There's my 2c.
Got some time on your hands? Or wanna check out new (or old) music? Come have a read - http://www.wecalleditmusic.com/

The 80's - The day the music died. In the 90's we saw some real bands re-emerging. Let's hope this century is better....it's looking promising.
