Ride the Lightning is one of my favorite albums of all time, and one of the few I can listen to all the way through.
2. Master of Puppets
3. Kill 'em All
4. AJFA
5. Black album

I would vote for "The best of Metallica 1983- " Which would have the best tracks from each album. But then that would just be cheating, wouldn't it!
I would have to say I am very fond of the Black Album because it was used in a hi-fi audition when i bought my system. I also saw them at Wembley Arena sometime in the early 90's. One minute we were standing outside, The next minute my friend had spoken to someone at the gates and I was being whisked inside by security for free. To this day I have no idea why!! It was quite a memorable gig. Black album it is.

Got to be the black album for me, i overplayed it i must say but it never gets old.
I was rather disappointed with Death Magnetic to be honest.

My vote goes to MoP.
I'm one of those snobs who thinks anything post Justice is best used as a coaster, and MoP, IMO, is a pretty perfect album. Lightning is close to perfect, but the tracks Disposable Heroes and Leper Messiah over shadow their counterparts on Lightning, Trapped Under Ice and Escape.

I've voted for Master of Puppets!
When I grew up me and my dad always listened to this album when my mom was out of the house.. It represents what Metallica in their best shape (musically) so it sure gets my vote.

I voted for Ride The Lightning. Its the most exciting Metallica record for me (I have them all bar Garage Inc). I was actually listening to some of St Anger recentley & got fed up after first few tracks! Another album worth mentioning is the excellent S&M live album they recorded with the late Michael Kamen conducting. Made me appreciate songs such as 'Memory Remains' which I previously did not like.
