1. Tool 2. Coheed And Cambria 3. Dave Matthews Band 4. Dream Theater 5. Black Sabbath 6. Adair 7. Scary Kids Scaring Kids 8. Ryan Adams & The Cardinals 9. The Smashing Pumpkins 10. Goo Goo Dolls I have my reasons.

Ok, well as much as I disagree with a lot of the lists here, there are some bands I would pick for some sub-genre of rock. So, my list is really, purity and thus pure rock and hard rock. I have not gotten an order as I am doing this of the top of my head.
1. Led Zeppelin [2. The Beatles (not really a rock band per se, they really are a pop band although some songs and album like The Beatles (White Album) can be classified as a Rock and Roll album] 2. The Rolling Stones 3. Nirvana 4. Van Halen 5. Pink Floyd 6. U2 7. Dire Straits 8. Jane's Addiction (it really is Alternative Rock but that term is a really general term used now but they used rock and hard rock influences so essentially they are a rock band at heart) 9. Lynyrd Skynyrd 10. Queen

But clearly I like metal better than other types of rock. Not sure if Nine Inch Nails count as rock though, they're kind of semi-electronic
