jazzboCR Wrote:Mike Finnigan The best rock/R&B organist that few have heard of--a scan of his wiki shows the types of major players he's worked with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Finnigan He's still waiting to get paid for the Electric Ladyland sessions...Great sense of humor. Couple of solo albums and integral to the Phantom Blues band. Pleasant, soulful tenor voice too. He's The Package.

Georgie Fame Been making significant music/ been everybody's "1st call" since the '50's. An early champion of Jamaican music (ska/blue beat). Known primarily for soul/R&B stuff but kills on jazz organ. Here's a Wiki and discog.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgie_Fame and http://www.allmusic.com/artist/georgie-f...iscography
Starting with the early stuff:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnrUHSuAYiw << revisiting the song 35 years later on Britain's best music show
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCU40-sesvw << 20 minutes of Pure-D heaven
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV608K-l6CM << He and Alan Price having fun with a novelty tune.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_xiKOZ9Kx0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg3-tQ_Ah-8 << with the songwriter and possibly the best jazz singer ever

Eddie Louiss Only a lesser known on my shores--a monster in Europe and elsewhere. Known on the piano, and both jazz and Classical recordings. A singer too. here's the AMG: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/eddy-loui.../biography
Some tunes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWcRtztr35A << features Stan Getz but it's Mr. Louiss' composition and session--may be unk. even to Mr. Getz' most fervent fans...Shows how B-3 fits into a bop session (no soul jazz here).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LLnpZVs5iY << strapping on a jazz classic and doing right by it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pyfFP0-rzE << with his "go-to" drummer, Kenny "Klook" Clarke--even wrote/named a song in his honor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgNcTQQZfZk With Jean-Luc Ponty
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9QaM4T2TK0 << he and Richard Galliano did unexpectedly such good playing with each other--look for others.

BONUS 1: a concert with a terrif ork and chorus--what more do you want in a soul-/Gypsy-/world-jazz perf? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYImI-9DtAM
BONUS 2: Concert snippets of a perf from much later--soul-jazz/Latin/Gypsy/bop/all-world sextet in that most world-looking of French cities, Marseille : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKkHZ7F841w << I think Walter Wanderly (q.v.) learned a bit from Mr. Louiss << terrible sound but what can you do?

Not a lot of women jazz organists--the other great one of our time was covered here: http://www.music-discussion.com/showthre...read/page8 Now Rhoda Scott (no relation). The Wiki (sketchy): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhoda_Scott 29 discs since '63 including a few live and some Classical takes: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/rhoda-sco...iscography
Some tunes from this lively, engaging woman:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH4p2nE90aw <<"...bella, bravisima..." indeed << truly, find me a better version.... Earl Grant's over-wrought version comes close http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_7kgcW2Bg0 << what he (MrKeys57) said...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIB2ywz3S9o << From '72...a different, faster take on Nat Adderly's classic tune
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CetehYycfPs << the "Barefoot Contessa" doing a Gershwin classic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToRyZNWGH6o << I'm all hot for that 'bone player--oh yes. Like her playing too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkGeomMqttc << a different kind of vid--setting up and playing in Hungary but without the music they made. Enjoy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFoq4JBTmYM << ...here's 28 minutes of what they did play. Ms. Scott enjoys Varnus Xaver's playing and so do I--an accomplished Classical trombone player too. Check her out.

BONUS 1: a European concert, a decade ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd6-mRenFLg
BONUS 2: Ms. Scott and Barabara Dennerlein together in concert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQUCtvt7_9A << 2 different styles that blend well--2 total pros--all credit to the drummer for keeping it all together, time-wise
