What Are You Listening To?
One seriously classy act. A unique voice as well. Often sounds like their are two different people singing at times. Very unusual.

Well Brother John went down to the garden,
On a long hot summer's day.
To watch that girl he would hide in the shadows,
As she worked the time away,
With her long black hair and her eyes of fire,
And a body to drive men crazy,
It was on that day there would be a change,
In the world of Brother John;

She felt his eyes and she walked up beside him,
And she took him by the hand,
She said, "Brother John, it's so hard to be holy,
Would you like to be a man?
I will meet you tonight at the monastery wall,
If you're there we will find out together,"
And the Devil said, "There's a place in hell,
For the soul of Brother John;"

Hallelujah! Temptation is here,
It's not a dream anymore,
Hallelujah! It's finally here,
I've been waiting, I'm waiting, I'm waiting...

Well Brother John lay tossing and turning,
In his bed in the heat of the night,
He heard his name and he went to the window,
Where she was in the clear moonlight,
Oh the sins of the flesh are too much to deny,
He was lost to her body forever,
And the Devil laughed and the angels cried,
For the soul of Brother John;

Hallelujah! Temptation is here,
It's not a dream anymore,
Hallelujah! It's finally here,
I've been waiting, I'm waiting, I'm waiting...

PAUL WELLER  "days of speed"  cd, 2001

feeling kinda mellow today so i played this one...
a live acoustic album...
just Weller and guitar covering songs from The Jam/Style Council and solo...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

one of his best for sure:

I'm gonna clear out my head
I'm gonna get myself straight
I know it's never too late
To make a brand new start

I'm gonna kick down the door
I'm gonna get myself in
I'm gonna fix up the yard
And not fall back again

I'm gonna clean up my earth
And build a heaven on the ground
Not something distant or unfound
But something real to me
But something real to me

All that I can I can be
All that I am I can see
All that is mine is in my hands
So to myself I call

There's somewhere else I should be
There's someone else I can see
There's something more I can find
It's only up to me

I'm gonna clean up my earth
And build a heaven on the ground
Not something distant on a cloud
But something real to me
But something real to me

I'm gonna clear out my head
I'm gonna get myself straight
I know it's never too late
To make a brand new start
To make a brand new start
To make a brand new start

How special are you?

I want someone else to pack my lunch
Gonna get someone else to pull the punch

his fifth...
had this one playing in the car for the last couple of days..
loved in on the first listen as it felt like an old friend had returned...
dude has a real warmth and friendliness in his music, like Chris Rea and Jackson Browne IMO...
and like those two, you know what you are going to get from the get-go...
great album once again from Mr.R...

Well the jury found you guilty, as you stare into a world that's without love
But you keep a wall around you, and you wait for help to come down from above
Now the wisdom of your ways has finally caught you up, and left you to your fate
So you end up like a refugee, all alone and standin' at the gates.

Now the truth is slowly dawning, but you don't get any warning here within
And you swear that you can change your ways, you promise that tomorrow you'll begin
But the phases of the moon still come and go, and now you've left it much too late
So you end up like a refugee, all alone and standin' at the gates.

All aboard the roundabout like the biggest fool you've ever seen
And all the time you know what's comin' down (it's comin' down)
Up and down on the roundabout while you're sittin' right on dynamite
And any fool can see what's comin' down.

You can run with the wind, you can laugh at the rain, and pretend
It's just some bad weather
There's a storm comin' up, and it's headin' your way.

Now the spirit doesn't move you, you're so empty, you've got nothin' left to give
Yes you know by now that nothin' you have ever learned has taught you how to live
But the phases of the moon still come and go, and now you've left it much too late
So you end up like a refugee, all alone and standin' at the gates.

All aboard the roundabout like the biggest fool you've ever seen

PAUL WELLER  "heliocentric" cd/vinyl 2000

a revisit...
his fifth solo studio album...
a return to a more acoustic soft rock based album which is in contrast to the guitar driven previous two albums...
more personal songs on here relating to his children, marriage collapse and unexpected health issues of his father...
not as commercial as previous efforts but still an excellent album IMO

Well she's waiting, by the window
With a fading tear
That will slip in to tomorrow
And have no fear.

She may look back and blame you
But you only blame yourself
And what good would it all do you
If you thought she blamed herself.

It's a lonely life, as bits of dust and rocks
When you shake it off
It's all you have.

In the time it takes, to find another space
Get to live again
She'll run and run
Still she's waiting, by the window
With a fading tear.

Well she looks upon, high flying silver dream
How she wishes how
She could climb aboard, never coming back
Turn on it all
Still she's waiting, by the window
She has no fear

JAMES McCARTNEY "me" cd, 2013

Hmmm, where to put this?
not quite alternative, not quite folk so "easy listening" it is...
his debut of two, have the second one on order through Amazon...
sounds like Neil Finn in a lot of songs, even the music has a NF solo feel to it...
a couple of songs have a distinct Sir Paul feel also, and some lyrics have a Paul Mac thing happening with word play...
but not surprising considering the namesake happens to be his father...
and alas, it must be hard being the child of an ex-Beatle, and like the others, he will release decent material but it will be overlooked and he will be forgotten or remembered as 'using the famous name' which isnt the case (well yes, to an extent it would be!)
that said, a good solid album IMO

When the road to freedom is a traffic jam,
It's hard for me to see how lucky I am,
I'm a lucky man.
When the path to heaven is a slippy-slope,
I've got to take a hold,
You give me some hope,
You give me some hope.
I am strong enough to make it through,
I am strong enough,
Strong as you.

Trees are parting,
Beautiful view,
Trees are parting,
All for you.
When the flowing river has been made a dam,
It's hard for me to say how happy I am,
Happy clam.
I am strong enough to make it through,
I am strong enough,
Strong as you.

I am strong enough to make it through,
I am strong enough,
Strong as you.
Strong as you.

JAMES McCARTNEY "the blackberry train" cd, 2016

his second of two...
and that is a shame because in his own right he is a decent artist...
co-produced with Youth, the producer dude who worked with Paul on his Fireman albums...
a couple of songs that sound like Paul, a couple of ballads, a psychedelia tune but mostly just decent soft-rock...
so both of his albums are pretty good but theyre not groundbreaking or revolutionary in any way, just good albums

Looking out and it's getting light,
Writing words from left to right,
But I try, but I try just a little too hard.
See a girl and she looks my way,
I say to her, "Do you want to stay?"
But I try, but I try just a little too hard.

My my, I've got to take it easy
Like the doctor said,
Lie back and think of Britain,
Running through my head.
My my, I've got to stop my pushing,
I'm going round and round,
Take a breathe and recognize my feelings,
I've got to slow it down.

I work my fingers down to the bone,
Tired of working all alone,
But I try, but I try just a little too hard.

My my, I've got to take it easy
Like the doctor said,
Lie back and think of Britain,
Running through my head.
My my, I've got to stop my pushing,
I'm going round and round,
Take the time to recognize my feelings,
I've got to slow it down.

I work my fingers down to the bone,
Tired of working all night long,
But I try, but I try just a little too hard.

But I try, but I try just a little too hard.

EURYTHMICS  "the ultimate collection" cd, 2005

a revisit...
soft rock and easy listening is where these guys sit IMO...
a nineteen track career spanning chronologically sequenced collection of hit after hit here...
its easy to forget just how good a hit song writer Dave Stewart was and how versatile Annie Lennox is as a vocalist...
she belts it out and goes toe to toe with Aretha on one track and holds her own...
elsewhere there are gorgeous ballads, soft rock, dance, synth-pop and new wave tunes...
excellent is the only word to describe Eurythmics IMO
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

track that really got me on this occasion: (and who doesnt love a bit of sax in the morning!)

i cant post Eurythmics without posting this one...vocal viagra
