COLDPLAY  "a rush of blood to the head" cd, 2002

soft rock i guess...
their second...
worldwide sales close to 15 million now...
still really like this album but not as much as i used to for some reason,
and definitely now as good as their debut...
still love "God put a smile on your face", "the scientist" and obviously my favourite track.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

LEONARD COHEN "songs of love and hate" cd, 1971

a revisit...
his third...
i never know where to put him (alternative, easy listening, soft rock, jazz, folk ?????)...
anyway,
his wordplay for creating moods and imagery is up there with Dylan for sure and he is probably at his peak on this album...
excellent, excellent album IMO
loving jsut about the whole thing!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

favourite (on this listen)

The woman in blue, she's asking for revenge
The man in white — that's you — says he has no friends
The river is swollen up with rusty cans
And the trees are burning in your promised land.

And there are no letters in the mailbox
And there are no grapes upon the vine
And there are no chocolates in the boxes anymore
And there are no diamonds in the mine.

Well, you tell me that your lover has a broken limb
You say you're kind of restless now and it's on account of him
Well, I saw the man in question, it was just the other night
He was eating up a lady where the lions and Christians fight.

And there are no letters in the mailbox
And there are no grapes upon the vine
And there are no chocolates in the boxes anymore
And there are no diamonds in the mine.

Ah, there is no comfort in the covens of the witch
Some very clever doctor went and sterilized the bitch
And the only man of energy, yes, the revolution's pride
He trained a hundred women just to kill an unborn child.

And there are no letters in the mailbox
Oh no, there are no, no grapes upon your vine
And there are, there are no chocolates in your boxes anymore
And there are no diamonds in your mine
And there are no letters in the mailbox
And there are no grapes upon the vine
And there are no chocolates in your boxes anymore
And there are no diamonds in your mine

ELTON JOHN  "peachtree road"  cd,  2004

his twenty-seventh studio album...
and unbelievably, the follow up to his twenty-sixth album, 2001's "songs from the west coast"...
sound of the album and lyrical content are similar to that one also...
soft rock, piano ballads and hints of country.
most songs are autobiographical as he relfects on life and love...
if you love the previous album, youre going to love this one also, and i do...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM:

not a single, but my favourite:

I'm weary and I'm staying up late
And the rain hits my roof so hard
You know I'm no longer thirty
These days I'm happy to play
One or two hands of cards
I hate flies in the kitchen buzzing
Disturbing the peace I've found
Fortune and fame is so fleeting
These days I'm happy to say
I'm amazed that I'm still around.

And the weight of the world is off my back
When we fell, we got up
And crawled out the cracks
Excuse me if I take some comfort in that
Happy today, happy to play
With the weight of the world off of my back.

Humidity hangs like a curtain
Oh, it fogs up my glasses sometimes
You know I've still got my eyesight
These days I'm happy to see
A sunset instead of a line.

And the weight of the world is off my back......

There's a long list of names
That I don't recall
Even though my memory's good
The rain washed away
The lemons and weeds
When the weight of the world weighed more than it should.

I hate ugly dragon flies in the kitchen buzzing
Disturbing the peace I've found
Fortune and fame is so fleeting
These days I'm happy to say
I'm amazed that I'm still around
And the weight of the world is off my back
When we fell, we got up
And crawled out the cracks
Excuse me if I take some comfort in that
Happy today, happy to play
With the weight of the world off of my back.

Happy today, happy to play
With the weight of the world off of my back

I have this album Crazy Man. and while it's nothing near his classic stuff, it is a return of sorts to what he used to do. I like it.

Something he did with Leon Russell which I really like - https://youtu.be/S482NaTcwVY
Somewhere between right and wrong there is a garden. I will meet you there - Rumi

her nineteenth solo album...
a covers set...
Bacharach/David, Emmy-Lou, Jimmy Webb, Goffin/King, Brian Wilson covers...
critically acclaimed by the experts but failed to sell...
gorgeous vocals as always from Ms.R...
not her best from what i own but a pleasant listen as always...

JOHN FARNHAM "then again...." cd, 1993

his fifteenth...
nowhere near his best work...
about half of this easy listening/soft rock material is passable, but thats about it...
Richard Marx wrote several track and pops up on keys on a few tracks also...
one cover on here, Alice's "only women", goes to prove again, some songs should be left alone...
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite (lead off single)

CHRIS DE BURGH "flying colours" cd,  1988

his nineth of twenty-three...
i own a handful at best...
i have no problem putting his name alongside Knopfler, Browne and Rea for consistant quality....
i should own more...
America never really embraced his music, stupid Americans!
anyway, great album from the ever dependable Mr.De Burgh

RINGO STARR "time takes time" cd, 1992

his tenth solo set,
i own nine of the first ten (dont have "old wave")
soft rock on here.
a return to some sort of form for me with nothing i dont like, but no 'love' tracks neither...
favourite has a loose ELO/Wilbury's feel happening, Lynne plays on it but he didnt write or produce it...
overall, a pleasant album from Ringo...
