CAROLE KING "writer" cd, 1970
her debut of seventeen,
checked the stats and i own half of her output.
how good were Goffin/King, i mean this is as good as anything in her catalogue.
a bit folkie, a bit pop, even a hint of jazz on a track or two.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
its not very often that i can say that i could pick any track off an album to post, but this is one of those:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

Steely Dan's The Royal Scam. Such sophisticated stuff - nothing else like 'em - so clever.
"Haitian Divorce" is very fab of course https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWYchJI0Cv8, probably the most mentioned when it comes to this release, but the whole album is engaging - nobody could ever accuse them of not being acutely observant ...

LEONARD COHEN "dear Heather" cd, 2004
his eleventh.
was a bit worried about this one as die-hard fan Music Head doesnt like it.
i see it as a duets album with two gorgeous female vocalists.
i love the melodies, the jazzy feel which lends perfectly to his smoky raspy vocals offset with the sultry female voices.
i can see how die-hards would dislike this this or at least be not impressed, much the same as i view modern Weller albums
in which MH has liked two or three of them but i dislike them...horses for courses i guess.
i played the album for Dani who isnt a Cohen fan by any means but she really liked it thanks to the female vocals.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM:
picking the opening track because this is the one that gave me positive vibes to enjoy the rest of it:

CAROLE KING "colour of my dreams" cd, 1993
her fifteenth of seventeen.
hearing some Suzanne Vega and Sheryl Crow vocally here.
she's showing a social conscience throughout this one.
it failed to chart anywhere but its a bloody good album,
liking half, loving the rest.

Vera comes home on Sunday morning after hanging with the boys all night
Laughing and drinking with them, thinking she's one of them
And that makes everything alright
She vaguely remembers going out in the parking lot
With the stone mason's son
Who had his way with her, then walked away when he was done
Sometimes she thinks about leaving--she tells herself, someday
You know, her daddy said she'd never amount to much
Of anything anyway.
Oh, tears falling down on me
Oh, tears falling down on me
No, that ain't the way it's supposed to be
Oh, tears falling down on me
Oh, tears falling down on me.
I've cried so many tears over man's unkindness to man
People say that's the way it is, but we gotta do what we can
Why does it have to be that way, I just don't understand
Rain falling from my eyes, rain falling from the sky
And I don't know why.
A pack of jokers get their jollies beating up on a black king
There's outrage in the city for a while
But do you think it'll really change anything
Get rid of the gates, free the people
And let the games commence
We gotta take our power back
And use it in ways that make sense.
Oh, tears falling down on me
Oh, tears falling down on me
If I could, I would change the course of history
Oh, tears falling down on me
Oh, tears falling down on me.
Oh, tears falling down on me
Oh, rain washing over me
Oh, tears falling down on me
Oh, pain washing over me.
Rain, wash it away, rain, wash it away
Wash the pain away, rain, wash it away.
Oh, tears falling down on me
Oh, tears falling down on me

WILLIE NELSON "my way" cd, 2018
a covers set in a Jazz style.
a tribute to Frank Sinatra.
Sinatra may not have been the one to make some of these tracks famous but he did record them all at some point.
a pleasant start to Sunday morning and like i always tell Dani, a bit of Willie first thing on a sunday morning is always good.
album received the Grammy for "best traditional pop vocal/performance".
album starts of reasonably good, gets a bit monotonous towards the end but over all....

CAROLE KING "fantasy" cd, 1973.
her fifth studio set.
the least likeable of the ones ive posted so far.
its just 'blah', a nothing album, maybe that description is wrong but theres
no oomph in it all, nothing uplifting about it, no spark.
its just bland, nothing bad on it, just nothing that stands out for me.

CAROLE KING "music" cd, 1971
her third, the follow up to Tapestry.
songs follow the same formula.
sold an estimated 1.3 million in the US on its day of release.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
