I know this is a movie soundtrack, but it belongs here...

Pre-Symbol Prince in R&R mode.

This is certainly Funky, but it's a Rock album. After all these years I'm still only a moderate Prince fan. He seems to me to be held in a disproportionate degree of reverence by many people.

That having been said, when he's on form - as here - it's easy to see the appeal. This is a very good record.

I've been reflecting on whether my distaste for the guys' personality should get in the way of my appreciation of his music. With the exception of Band on The Run, & Wings Over America I've probably not paid attention to his output, and that doesn't seem right.

I think the extensive listening I gave to the Beatles Remasters box sets has brought a fresh appreciation of just how good a writer he was, & that it's time for a bit of a reappraisal.

You've motivated me to explore Macca again Crazyman, and I've spent the afternoon listening and reading reviews. Copies of Run Devil Run, & Memory Almost Full have gone from nowhere on the radar straight to ordered from Amazon, completely bypassing the Buy List.

Cheers, Dude...

Thought I had done this one before, but I don't see it. One of those I have on both vinyl and cd and I try and not do duplicates. Also thought this would come out a love but it just misses, and I don't cheat. It is what it is. Debut album that made the group with Light My Fire. One of those songs along with Stairway To Heaven that I always say I never want to hear again. On the radio at least. Fine when I play it. Won't deny it is a great song, along with four others on here. Too bad that track had to be edited down from it's original 7 plus minutes down to just under 3 to fit the singles mold. Unfortunately two bombs kept the album from that top rating. Recorded in six days. Perfection doesn't need six months, it just happens. I see where the group was thrown out of the Whiskey A Go Go where they first performed The End Live after Morrison screams out that mother line. Give me a break. I'm sure it offended that audience. Light My Fire was a #1 hit here with the album going to #2.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - I Looked At You

Best Track - Twentieth Century Fox

Well, she's fashionably lean
And she's fashionably late
She'll never rank a scene
She'll never break a date
But she's no drag
Just watch the way she walks

She's a twentieth century fox
She's a twentieth century fox
No tears, no fears
No ruined years, no clocks
She's a twentieth century fox, oh yeah

She's the queen of cool
And she's the lady who waits
Since her mind left school
It never hesitates
She won't waste time
On elementary talk

'Cause she's a twentieth century fox
She's a twentieth century fox
Got the world locked up
Inside a plastic box
She's a twentieth century fox, oh yeah
Twentieth century fox, oh yeah
Twentieth century fox
She's a twentieth century fox

ive never been able to get 'into' The Doors, not sure why, maybe its the same thing that makes me not like INXS, Hutchence mannerisms on stage are similar to Jim's...just find it a big turn off.

"RUN DEVIL RUN" is very good for a covers album mainly due to the fact that there are a few obscure songs on it, the macca originals are done in the same 1950s vein as the rest and it works nicely, tends to be a grower than great on initial hearing.

"MEMORY ALMOST FULL" is one of my favourite Macca albums, shows him in a reflective mood, good melodies and harmonies....i have reviewed this one on the site previous,a quality album for sure.

PAUL McCARTNEY "tug of war" 1982. cd,vinyl. #1 UK, #1 US, #2 Aust.

woo-hoo!!!! pulled out another Macca album, man i love this guy more than i love The Beatles!
"pure genius" are the only two words that describe this album, a must for any music fan to own IMO.
his first album release since Lennon's murder, and the first since Abbey Road where George Martin twiddles the knobs.
Stevie Wonder sings on two tracks, "ebony and ivory" which uses the metaphor of piano keys to equate racial harmony, its a very good song IMO even though it appears on a lot of 'worst songs' lists. and "whats that youre doing?' a tight funk based number co-written with Stevie.
Carl Perkins gets a chance to duet with Paul on "get it", a nice rockabilly/country cross tune. Denny Laine plays on "ballroom Dancing", a song which could have fitted well on "back to the egg", and Ringo plays on various tracks.
PM's love song for John, "here today", is featured here and rates with the best Macca has written. the album is chock-o-block with great melodies and harmonies, none moreso than on the sublime "wanderlust".
just about the whole album is made up of classic songs, and Macca's lyrics are some of the best he has ever written, its a shame that John never got to hear it, im sure he would have loved it,especially the title track.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM!

Their third from 1971.

Grandiose, melodramatic, & dark, this is a fairly strongly-flavoured Prog album. The use of Sax throughout brings early-70s King Crimson to mind, and lo & behold Robert Fripp (KC mainstay) guests on guitar.

Daft time signatures prevail, but this is a strong enough album to succeed despite that, and this is the best/worst of Prog Rock (depending on your viewpoint...).

Interesting piece of work.
