and although i think sportsmen are grossly overpayed, if there is one sportsman who is worth his weight in gold it has to be Ronaldo for sure.

You should see his collection of trophies & gifts from heads of state all over the world in his CR7 museum in Madeira. He is light years ahead of everyone else. And he is totally disciplined and dedicated to his craft. As the Tina Turner song goes - 'simply the best'.

there'll be lots of heated discussion (and probably protests) over the next couple of months as Australia purchases a fleet of Nuclear Submarines as part of the joint US/AU/UK alliance in this part of the world...

seems that Covid has killed off Influenza here in Australia over the last two years.
its more a point of people practicing social distancing, not going to work when feeling sick and better hygiene practices IMO...

Influenza cases hit an all-time low in Australia in 2021 — that could be a problem when it returns (msn.com)

^Re the flu - for what it's worth, my local pharmacist says it can mainly be ascribed to hand washing. I think it's a worldwide thing. People are also not visiting their doctor though, for minor ailments, or reporting a flu case. Who knows?? All very complex.

We've had a sad event in my town - 63 African penguins have been found dead at Boulders Beach. Stung by bees, of all things! The bees are also dead, of course, because that's how it works. I don't think I've ever heard of a swarming around here. Very strange! Our endangered and vulnerable wildlife isn't having a great time of late - the Great Whites have disappeared from False Bay, and now this.

so sad re the Penguins,
and like you said...bees of all things! (thats a new one for me also!)

i read somewhere not long ago that the Great Whites are leaving because they are now prey....by Killer Whales.
(gives a whole new meaning to 'the hunter becomes the hunted" doesnt it?!)

apparently the Killer Whales attack them from below and only eat their livers.

Apparently the hive must have been disturbed by human intervention or activity. According to a bee person this wouldn't have occurred naturally. Somehow we always manage to meddle!

The sharks are not likely to be disappearing purely due to the presence of orcas. There are other factors as well - overfishing being one of them. All these systems are complex and in delicate balance. Apex predators help maintain that balance - except humans. There's that story about reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone and how that changed everything for the better. Fascinating. https://www.yellowstonepark.com/things-t...ecosystem/

We have several wildlife conundrums at the moment - baboons have become too used to humans and go after easy food pickings rather than forage as they should. So they come into town to raid the bins that people don't secure and cause havoc crossing roads and getting into houses etc. Not their fault at all - they've always been here and had room to range - now there's urban sprawl, the troops are top heavy with immature adults and too big because food has been so plentiful (natural food as well - due to rainfall), etc., etc. Lots of fur flying, and I don't mean animal! Hugely divisive issue.
