Bringing this Forum back to music in the movies: Freshly out on DVD and Blu-Ray are 2 movies (I refuse to call movies "films", as pretentious as I otherwise am) that spotlight jazz and jazz musicians: Syncopation and The Connection. The first is a history of all the musical and some of the socio-political elements of what makes jazz--relax; it's a drama, not some tedious documentary, the second has jazz players and others waiting for The Man (also includes an interview with an excellent, underrated piano player, Freddie Redd, who composed the music). Here's a short, readable review in the NYTimes.: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/01/movies...story.html << This article mentions other movies worth exploring (not as click-throughs though).

A man accustomed to hear only the echo of his own sentiments, soon bars all the common avenues of delight, and has no part in the general gratification of mankind--Dr. Johnson
