I just need to point out a blatant fact - The Cure is NOT is punk band. Yes, they were influenced by some of the British punk movement of the mid 70s but truly the only punk stimulated album they had was Three Imaginary Boys (or for you Americans, Boys Don't Cry) and still that was a post-punk record until they moved to the Gothic Rock movement of the 80s. Don't forget, sounding punk does not mean that you are punk - its a whole package; and Robert Smith is one of the best musicians and lyricists of our time so really he moved well away from the notion of punk's "we don't need to be good at music to make good music."
