Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd Jazz Samba One of the best-selling jazz records and for good reason--"jazz" enough for aficionados; melodic and soft enough to lure all others in. 4 different rhythm players including Charlie's brother. Latin rhythms have had a place in mainstream jazz since at least the late '40's with Dizzy Gillespie but they were usually harder-edged--"Manteca" e.g.; this disc greatly broadened the appeal. A minor downside: a lot of players thought they had to do Bossa Nova albums or at least a tune or two, and were ill-equipped to do so effectively. Couldn't find the whole album; here's some cuts:

A man accustomed to hear only the echo of his own sentiments, soon bars all the common avenues of delight, and has no part in the general gratification of mankind--Dr. Johnson
