He said he actually almost died on that cross from hypothermia and was struck by lightning during the last shot of the day. Jim also experienced a shoulder separation from the weight of the cross. He was also actually hit during the scourging accidentally which left a 14 inch scar on his back. He was throwing up because he was so sick and his lungs were filling up with fluid, There was a Dr. on the scene. After the filming Jim had heart surgery. Mel warned Jim that it would be rough but Jim wanted to do the movie. Jim said he experienced a small part of what Jesus went through. Best portrayal of Jesus I've ever seen!!
