SteveO Wrote:Great review . from the master J !!!!...thanks for this ! I am not saying it's one of my favorite albums ever but I enjoyed listening to it just the same possibly because I really am not a fan of this house/funk genre. I also wanted to know what the big fuss was all about and what obviously attracted millions of young people with regards to pop music ! I've listened to the album twice and will listen thrice but that could possibly be it for me. However I wouldn't hesitate to listen to it again if the mood strikes me...it is an uplifting album for me ! I think the simple sparse lyrics are intentional to create a funky dance groove reminiscent of the seventies ! Repetitive lyrical line on the track Lose Yourself to Dance is infectious and hypnotic.
Too much music old and new, have to move on !
Looking forward to Part Two review from you Jerome !
Make no mistake SteveO - this is going to be big. I read your comments about the album and you are pretty much spot on. I'm just not a fan of disco. I looked this up the web and Nathan East (Clapton's bassist for many years is on there as well). There are some great moments on this album, but for me they are too few and far between. Having said that a lot of people seem to like the second half of the album. Will get to that shortly.
