#491 - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - I Love Rock & Roll - 1981
me - **
from the album: I Love Rock & Roll
Written by Jake Hooker and Alan Merrill
Produced by Ritchie Corell and Kenny Laguna
Chart action: #1 Billboard Hot 100, #4 U.K. Singles, #1 Australia, #1 Canada
the players:
Joan Jett – vocals, guitar
Gary Ryan – bass, back vocals
Irvan Arifin Harahap – guitar, back vocals
Lee Crystal – drums
Eric Ambel – guitar
You gotta admit it was catchy. It should be with that repetition at the end that goes on for roughly 1 minute of the
3 minute song. Don't love this one but I like it. The song that made Joan & the Blackhearts (Runaways were better).
Written in 1975 and recorded by a group called Arrow. Joan was trying to get a record deal after running away from
the Runaways. She shopped this around to 23 record labels before getting a bite. The rest is history, as the song
was a #1 hit and was on the chart for 20 weeks, boosting the album to #2. MTV had just been launched and this song
got heavy promotion there. Hope the boys from Arrow are getting their royalties.

Lyrics
I saw him dancing there by the record machine
I knew he must have been about seventeen
The beat was going strong
Playing my favorite song
And I could tell it wouldn't be long till he was with me, yeah me
And I could tell it wouldn't be long till he was with me, yeah me
Singing, I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
Ow!
He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name
But that don't matter, he said, 'cause it's all the same
He said, "Can I take you home
Where we can be alone?"
And next we were moving on, he was with me, yeah me
Next we were moving on, he was with me, yeah me
Singing, I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
Ow!
He said, "Can I take you home
Where we can be alone?"
Next we're moving on, he was with me, yeah me
And we'll be moving on and singing that same old song, yeah with me
Singing I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with
I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with
I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with
I love rock and roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock and roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
