Looking Back At Some Classics

[Music Head]

#498 - Rolling Stones - Miss You - 1978

me - ***
from the album Some Girls
Written by Mick Jagger & Keith Richards
Produced by Mick Jagger & Keith Richards
Chart action: #1 Billboard Pop, #3 UK Singles

the players:
Mick Jagger – lead and backing vocals[3]
Keith Richards – guitar, backing vocals
Ron Wood – guitar, backing vocals
Charlie Watts – drums
Bill Wyman – bass guitar
Ian McLagan – electric piano
Mel Collins – saxophone
Sugar Blue – harmonica

Jagger was rehearsing for a gig, jamming with Billy Preston when he came up with the idea for this gem. Both Mick
and Keith got writing credits for most of the groups work. Preston came up with the bass riff here, which made the
song for me. And the sax break is tremendous. The bands first #1 hit in 5 years, and their 8th overall. Some funk
disco was all it took to make it back to the top. Not sure I took to this when it came out. Good songs have a way of
improving with age. This was the first Stones song to warrant a dance club remix. Not sure I could go it for eight
minutes. But that was disco. I see that Etta James recorded this song in 2000, in a much slower version. This song
spent sixteen weeks at the top of the Billboard chart, and took the album to the top also. It shows as the groups
all time best selling album.

Lyrics

I've been holding out so long
I've been sleeping all alone
Lord I miss you
I've been hanging on the phone
I've been sleeping all alone
I want to kiss you
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh
Well, I've been haunted in my sleep
You've been staring in my dreams
Lord I miss you.
I've been waiting in the hall
Been waiting on your call
When the phone rings
It's just some friends of mine that say,
"Hey, what's the matter man?
We're gonna come around at twelve
With some Puerto Rican girls that are just dyin' to meet you
We're gonna bring a case of wine
Hey, let's go mess and fool around
You know, like we used to"
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Oh everybody waits so long
Oh baby why you wait so long
Won't you come on! Come on!
I've been walking Central Park
Singing after dark
People think I'm crazy
I've been stumbling on my feet
Shuffling through the street
People ask me, "What's the matter with you boy?"
Sometimes I want to say to myself
Sometimes I say
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
I won't miss you child
I guess I'm lying to myself
It's just you and no one else
Lord I won't miss you child
You've been blotting out my mind
Fooling on my time
No, I won't miss you, baby, yeah
Lord, I miss you child
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Lord, I miss you child
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Lord, I miss you child
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
