Whew! that took awhile. Well worth the almost 800 pages. Mostly a bio of MLK during the years 65-68, ending with his death. He was at his peak influence on the civil rights movement. But the followers had become restless with the whole peaceful protest marches thing. Radical influences had set in with the Black Panthers. Also a lot of politics in here, as that is a lot of what Martin was, a politician. A lot of meetings with the Johnson administration over what was needed to quell the disturbances in major cities. Johnson had the Vietnam war on his plate too. Much of the book deals with that also. I think the war agenda sort of got in the way of the peace agenda. War, protests, what better way to remember the 60's. Only thing missing was the music.
