Mike Oldfield - Hergest Ridge. Been a fan of the man since I first heard Tubular Bells on a beach in the Namib desert many, many moons ago. Naturally some additives were involved and I have never been the same since. However I have to say I find parts of this heavy going these days but it does have some beautiful interludes. A strange album and one created when he could not deal with the pressures of fame and retreated from the world. He eventually 'cured' himself with a course of Exegesis and this changed his outlook and the material he produced. Despite the enormous success of Tubular Bells, 'The Songs of Distant Earth' I still feel is his best work to date.
