Story of Lithuanian immigrants and their struggles with becoming americans. Upton Sinclair was a big socialist at the time of this writing, and it was apparent by this work. Not shy about extolling the evils of capitalism. The meat industry seems to be the main offenders here. Graphic details of how animals were processed during the main characters employment there. Constant jabs at "the man". There's always the man to contend with. You gotta serve somebody. Very good book.
