BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "the promise" cd,2010.
its pure coincidence that this one comes out in my random play list right now just as The Boss releases another studio album, but nevertheless, a welcome play!
i got this one just after it was released after Jerome posted something about how good it was and mentioned the quality of the songs left off the Darkness On The Edge Of Town album, from whose sessions these tracks came from.
several made it onto the final album in 1978,a couple in different sounds, namely "racing in the street" which is more uptempo here, others have never been released in their studio versions until now, however "fire" which was a huge hit for the Pointer Sisters and "because the night" have been previously released on Boss 'live' albums.
and as Jerome said then, and i say now....how the hell did these tracks not get released back then, its a testament to a man/band at the top of their game that so many gems of tracks can stay hidden in the vaults for over 30 years!.
the other good thing about this one is that when The Boss decided to finally release them he enlisted then producer Bob Clearmountain to polish them up as per the origainl album's sound, thus what we have is a good companion album for Darkness On The Edge Of Town....
