I think one would be hard pressed to find a bad Elvis Costello album ! His established formula for good melodic songs and story telling is impeccable ! I really enjoy Get Happy !
CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:
ELVIS COSTELLO "blood and chocolate" cd,1986.
an often overlookked album in the vast Costello back catalogue IMO....didnt sell very well at the time in comparrison to the rest of his albums....guessing the dark subject matter of his recent divorce had a lot to do with it...
all the tracks are lyrically full of hate and blame for his wife walking out on him.
the music, however, marks a return to the old days of classic Attractions albums of the late 1970s...probably dur to the fact that mentor and partner in crime Nick Lowe is here twiddling the knobs in the studio. sort of sounds like a more mature "armed forces" and "my aim is true" than his more country styled albums of the mid 1980s. pretty hard to decide which track is my favourite here, either "uncomplicated" or "next time round", but i went for the latter.
all up, another very good set from "mr.consistantly reliable" Elvis Costello.
i always look at what allmusic rates albums at after i give my score and on this occasion we are both spot on at 4/5(2.4)!
