Had not read anything by Mr. Lewis before that I recall. First U.S. author to win the Nobel Prize, in 1930. Looking at his works, the only thing I recognize is Elmer Gantry. This one was very good. Set at the turn of the century, the story of a big city (Mineapolis) young woman who meets a small town doctor and gets hitched, only to discover she doesn't much care for small town life. Spends most of her time trying to change the town and the people in it. They don't take to that too well. After years of trying she hangs it up and leaves her hubby to go to D.C. to join the womens libbers. She's not happy there either. All is well though, she returns to the small town with the realization that it is what it is. lol.
