THE BEACH BOYS "pet sounds" cd,1967.

i have the 2001 cd release which contains both original mono recording and also the 2001 stereo mixes...
anyway,
this was the album Paul McCartney was so blown away with that he needed to reassess the Beatles and create Sgt.Peppers soundscape album...
like Sgt.Peppers, i dont see what all the hoopla is with this so-called "classic" album...i guess you had to be there, which i wasnt...
that said, this is a good album but does just miss the "love" mark.it is full of great vocals, layered harmonies, cool orchestrations mixed with pop sounds.
"im waiting for the day" comes real close to toppling "god only knows" as my favourite BB track ever, and why did God Only Knows only make #39 in the US charts? i just dont get chart placings sometimes....whatever, its still a classic song!
at least the album proves there is more to these guys than the one dimensional beach/surfing songs that really dont cut it for me even though i come from a beach/surfie culture!
we all know these songs so im just linking my three favourite tracks...
