First volume of The Vault Box Set, on 2-discs & released in 1991.
This was the first of their live archive releases, which spawned several different series of live Dead. It would take another 16 years before the third and final volume saw light of day.
Recorded in SF in 1975, whilst they were promoting Blues For Allah. Very high quality recording, and the music's not shabby, either. Every strand of indigenous American music is put through the Grateful Dead shredder to often brilliant effect. There's a truly lovely version of It Must Have Been The Roses on here (of which there isn't a decent video clip, otherwise I'd have posted one...).
AllMusic 3/5 stars (Harrumph !!).
