Latest release, from 2011.
My own copy on shiny silver disc.
Marianne has never been a technically accomplished singer, but with her advancing years she's become almost the female equivalent of His Bobness, in that what she does bring to the table is a voice soaked in the experience of life, and that voice is a wonderful thing in 2011.
Never a strong songwriter either, but as ever her choice of covers is impeccable; The Gutter Twins, R.B. Morris, Jackie Lomax, Lesley Duncan, Goffin & King, The Shangri-Las, & Allen Toussaint. A clutch of decent originals are included, and the whole is a beautifully played, and hugely musical tour de force.
Not scored by AllMusic.
