Another one prompted by SteveO's recent Bowie posts...
Bowie's big breakthrough, from 1972.
Bowie and his band actually lived this one out. Without the money to afford them, the band started turning up to gigs in limousines, and generally behaving like Rock superstars. The trick worked, and the hype built, and Bowie would eventually break up the band with an announcement from the stage.
The attention to detail on this album is astonishing. Little touches of subtle instrumentation are all over the album, and not a note seems out of place. One of that rare breed of near-perfect albums...
