Your point's a good one Steve.
There is a huge amount of music out there, and it's always expanding. The best I can hope to do is pick up on some of the good stuff from both the past, and current day. This place alone generates enough leads to keep me investigating. Even then I need to ration the time I spend investigating, cos, well, I actually have a life to live...
I was conscious of this last night when leafing through the reviews section of a Mojo magazine (I'm about six months behind with the magazines). I can only really scan the reviews that are 4 stars or above, and discard most of them unless they look particularly interesting.
My Buy List currently includes 96 artists...
