1994 release from Grant Lee Phillips and his band.
Loved by critics, the band never really made any commercial waves, and Phillips went on to have a solo career which followed much the same path. Under-appreciated song-writing genius.
Picking out someone to compare this band with is no easy task, but I would say this album occupies some of the same territory as Ryan Adams, without sounding at all like him. Generally rich, warm & woozy country-tinged ballads combine with some excellent Grunge-Lite rock-outs.
AllMusic 4+/5 stars.
