JOHNNY WARMAN "walking into mirrors" 1981. vinyl #68Aust
never heard of Johnny Warman?
im not surprised, as this album was the only album he released that gained a chart entry...and that was in Australia.
Johnny is a 'cockney' from London's East End, he released his first single in 1977 and several more till the turn of the decade, his debut album and these singles didnt chart anywhere, somewhere, somehow Australia took to the single "screaming jets" from this album and he had a hit record, he released a further album in 1983,which never charted anywhere, he then went into concentrating on writing songs rahter than performing them. Johnny wrote songs for Asia, Cheap Trick, Jefferson Starship, Aqua and Ringo Starr.
about this album:
think XTC,Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins (in the air tonight-era) and you'll get the musical idea.
Johnny's good friend Peter Gabriel did actually play on this one and supply backing vocals to several tracks. the first side(first 5 tracks) are very forboding, paranoidesque tracks of imminent destruction via a nuclear war written after JW watched "appocolypse now"., the second side is a bit more uptempo and slightly more uplifting lyrics, but less inspiring generally
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
