Probably a little to genteel for the Rock board, but here it stays...
UK singer-songwriter of Malaysian/Fijian descent, who burned quite brightly for a while Still working, but haven't heard anything she's done for years. Her first album made her a millionaire, so I don't suppose she loses much sleep over a quiet career.
This is her second effort from '90, and whilst it doesn't rise to the level set by her debut, it's still well worth a listen.
Tanita was always very open about her Leonard Cohen influences, and it's quite obvious where her musical allegiances lie. Not a Leonard substitute, but in the same ball-park.
First saw her live before she broke, when she supported Soul/Blues performer Ted Hawkins. She was 18 years old, played a solo set, and was a bit like a rabbit in the headlights. Very good, though.
