Joe Meek was one of the UK's independent producers...He is reputed to have turned down The Beatles and a very young David Bowie............The main thing about Joe Meek was that he was a Maverick...........He pioneered many ideas in production including close mike techniques, acoustic screening for seperate instruments effects boxes compression ,speed variation and many more..................With Joe Meek, it important to realize that you are listening to a sound not individual artists ( Rather like Phil Spector!)..............Joe worked in the late 50s and early 60s...............in listening to his works you begin to realise that many modern music genres are much older than you think.
The Joe Meek CDs are excellent listening and reflect his time period beautifully........add to this the story of his life and dramatic end make those tracks essential listening for any music buff..................

Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!
It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown..............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )
