According to the book 'Elton', this song was written as his response to his legal battle with one of the British tabloids who made all sorts of accusations about him. He won the case and one of the conditions of the settlement was that the tabloid concerned had to print a full apology on their front page. Unheard of at the time. British tabloids are just plain rubbish. They just make shit up like those stupid soap operas of theirs.
