Try - Tales from Topographic Oceans - be warned - make sure you have the time and patience to sit through the whole thing. Probably the most complex album I have ever heard. But my favourite remains 'Going for the One'. A stunning album.
I agree about MM. He gets a bit much after a while but his collaboration with the Doobies just works for me.

This album just sits so easy on the ear. And yet musically it's quite complex. Just listen to Mr. Tiran Porter's bass parts. Sheer wizardry. Wheels of Fortune & For Someone Special remain my favourite tracks.
Bass is brilliant in this - https://youtu.be/qUSPf9VfJD8
And the other one - incidentally written by the bass player as well - https://youtu.be/ZavILfiYhiU
^Fantastic bass! “Takin’ it to the Streets” is an instant good mood maker, but track after track of Michael MacDonald solo is a different story IMHO! I’ve been trying to listen to his new album and am finding it quite difficult – there’s a roll of credits worthy of a movie, a huge list of personnel and production people and great music and arrangements, but that voice is just too strident or something – forced – can’t listen to him. The album is getting kudos from all over the place – maybe I’m just a Philistine.
