Tiggi Wrote:Billie Holiday - Jazz at The PhilharmonicI have to honest, Tigger and say that I am probably one of the few that did NOT like Billie's singing as a rule but all that changed for me as she approached her passing. There is a video recording of her singing Fine and Mellow with a veritable 'Supergroup' that includes Lester 'Prez' Young, Harry 'Sweets' Edison, Ben Webster and Gerry Mulligan among others probably less than a year before she died. She looks haggard and the pain is definitely there in the voice but, it is the best that I ever heard her sing.
Live Lady Day.
This is a disc which compiles Billie's JATP recordings, and some of her later live stuff.
When people talk about her voice being knackered near the end of her life, I think they're just missing the point...
I have it around here somewhere on either tape or DVD and will try and track it down.
Love the cover too, BTW!
