For me, with most groups the earlier albums are always better.
For some reason Floyd is different. The Wall Stands tall. But I like them all. Well maybe except for that Division Bell thing, if you can even call that Pink Floyd. In comparison that was pretty weak.

A direct reflection of my views. To the letter...

Ok. Floyd as messed up as some of their members were and still are made some of the greatest albums of all time. Now, although the modern day audience recognises some Floyd songs, we see that their focus is for great hits ie pop songs and not looking at great albums. Dark Side of the Moon is the epitomy of a great album in the way that it is essentially one extended song, as each track on the record links with the next telling a story, much like their greatest success - The Wall. This double album goes further into the concept of an album, and we see from that a film and one of the most recognisable album rcovers in rock history (although that is quite disputable) and shows Roger Waters' prowess as a writer and lyricist to make 2 of my favourite albums of the 70s although that is hard for me to accept with punk playing a large role in some of the greatest albums of that decade.

Nevertheless, I still believe Dark Side of the Moon is the best album of Pink Floyd, and possibly the best album of that decade IMO.

I keep moving closer to the idea that it was always about songs, even with a so-called album-oriented band like Pink Floyd, in an album-oriented era like the 70s.

The Wall is a perfect example. It has some of their best songs, but also drags, as double albums tend to do. It was widely considered one of their best albums, but at the same time a self-indulgent, long-winded ego trip for Roger Waters. Both are accurate.

If forced to choose, I'd go with Wish You Were Here, because I could listen to it from beginning to end, while I always got bored listening to Dark Side, Animals, and The Wall about half way through. I love the cynical commentaries on the music biz, and I find it more fun and humorous than the other three, which come across as either too angry or too depressed.

That would be my second choice

I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music

The Wall is my favourite. It doesn't drag at all - it's amazing from start to finish.

My vision of pink Floyd is the exact contrary: for some reason Pink Floyd never really grabbed my attention and it's not that I didn't tried! And one day someone put Division Bell and it became the only album I really enjoy from them; I listen to it regularly.

In fact, Pink Floyd is a total mystery in my life: I know it's a great band and I'm open about it, but for now it remains at the commercial-one-album-basic-phase for me.

I need a album suggestion: I know they did some instrumental psychedelic music...what is the best album album in this genre from them?
