American actor and singer-songwriter
Jeff Bridges released his second self-titled studio album Jeff Bridges on August 16, 2011. Upon its release, this new album has received most positive views from critics. Sam Gazdziak, of Engine145, gave the album three-and-a-half stars out of five. Gazdziak praised the album for its custom sound and lyrics. He described the album as "slow", noting that Bridges "growls" through the slower songs. The highlight of this album is the single "What a Little Bit of Love Can Do". Love this single!

He was pretty good in the remake of True Grit (US 2010), although the film itself is a bit unsatisfactory.

I've always liked Jeff!! My fave movie of his is Kiss Me Goodbye and Starman. Never took the time to hear him sing though.

That brings a question in mind! Who in your opinion successfully gained recognition as an actor and singer? There are many! Barbara Streisand instantly comes to mind!

Thinking on it a bit more: Common does a hell of a job in Hell on Wheels and his other engagements; Ice-T has been a major component of Law & Order:SVU for many years and let's not forget "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", Will Smith, maintaining a dual career all these years.
If you think it odd to be high-lighting these gents in a "Country/Folk" Forum--Not country, certainly, but they sure spoke to the folk--their mainly urban folk.

Frank Sinatra was very good in films (Von Ryan's Express) and Johnny Cash wasn't bad (Murder in Coweta County), but they were both singers first and actors second. Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan are actors turned singers (for Mama Mia!), but they are not good singers.
Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood both 'sang' in the brilliant Paint Your Wagon and were surprisingly good, but the marvellous Harve Presnell really stole the show. I think Eastwood did sing or play instruments in other films(?). His son is a musician and his daughter was a good actress and showed a lot of promise.
The actors turned singers would make a good thread in its own right.
