second album by these guys and by far their best effort IMO....
its not all grunge or heavy rock on this one, theres a few ballads also, even one that borders on jazz...
i noticed, and maybe you guys did too, that none of the singles released made the US Billboard Charts...
strange isnt it???, but they did make the alt, mainstream and rock charts...WTF, why so many charts???
a very, very good rock album by anyones standards, and this is the one to get if anyone wants a Fooies album other than a compilation!

I only have the debut by these guys which is just so-so for me
listened to Major Tim's copy of the latest when he was home and really liked it
now with your review of this, it's clear I need to dig deeper

Low score for a Pretenders album barely reaching a like and nothing I love. Their first album to not reach Gold status and no singles even hit the chart here. I think I
dropped out after this one. The Pretenders name was used for contractual obligations even though Chrissie is the only original band member on the album with the
supporting cast being session musicians, making it more of a Chrissie Hynde rather than a Pretenders album. One cover with Hendrix's May This Be Love which
Chrissie pulls off ok. Fav is the leadoff and first single but three tracks that bomb for me. AMG didn't even care for this album calling it bland and uninspiring.

none of the singles really do it for me, i'll probably get it sooner or later and the other couple im missing...
im surprised Major Tim likes those guys???
but then again he does have one or two Nirvana albums so it makes sense in a way.
i cant recall ever hearing their debut so i cant really comment on it

Grammy Awards - 1 for Best Alternative Album
Looks like this is the bands best selling album going Gold in the US, AUS and CAN, and it got them a Best Alternative Album grammy. Also showed up in the top 10 on
most EOY lists. Glowing reviews from the critics with AMG giving it 4 stars. It didn't do so well from me. I get a Kings Of Leon/Modest Mouse feel from the band so it
should have worked. Two drawbacks were meaningless lyrics and vocals sounding the same on most tracks. I never followed up or went back. The last one charted
higher here but has yet to go Gold.
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
