DINAH WASHINGTON "what a diff'rence a day makes" cd,1959.
Dinah's seventeenth album in just nine years...
whereas the one posted above has shades of pop and soul, this is strictly blues...some nice tunes on here, but nothing i love...which is unfortunate because she has a beautiful voice.
apparently there are a lot blues standards on here, but im not really into the blues so i dont know the originals, one of which, Manhattan, i do not like, but blues guys rate it up there amongst the greatest in that genre, so who am i to say whats good or bad!
all up, not a bad listen but i can take it or leave it!

Referencing post #805, P. 81<<>>Amused to see Ronnie Reagan being host on that "What a Diff'rence..." clip. Here's "Cry Me a River": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrVZmByExXE That myth-making song "Manhattan" is one of her signature songs, but if somebody doesn't like it, they don't like it. Who are we to argue?

A weak Dino compilation here but I still like it. Weak in the sense that not many hits. Probably the only track most know is my fav, You're
Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You. Unfortunately this is actually not the version that was released as a single. It is a little stripped down but
still beautiful, as are a few other tracks. Dino is my all time favorite crooner. Love the man too. Always watched his show back in the day. Did
some acting too, most notably with Jerry Lewis. And of course the ratpack days with Frank and Sammy. Sorry, back to the album. This is one of a
series of albums that Capitol put out on the crooners era. All of the recordings here are taken from 2 recording sessions in 1959 and 1960. So
this is not a good retrospective of the mans career. Nice album but if you want the hits go elsewhere.

Sure. Fine. OK. As long as he's not thought to be a jazz singer. Unfortunately, that happens and crowds out of sales genuine jazz singers, as relaxed as they want to be. 'Twas always thus. Ah well.
