Looking Back At Some Classics
Music Head Wrote:#302 - Bob Marley And The Wailers - Get Up, Stand Up - 1973

The rest are just copycats.

Fans of Toots and the Maytals or the Viceroys (of which I'm one) take vigorous exception to this vapid remark. If the greater point is that reggae is principally a producer's medium, I'll agree with that.

just never knew what Mick was on about here. Killing the King?
How will you ever get knighted mate?
It doesn't take a close reading of the lyrics to know he was talking about bottled-up rage and eventual submission--the "...compromise solution..." part. And about "...kill the king...": Jagger lived most of his life with a Queen as head, so knighthood isn't an issue. What he was pissed about then is even more true now, what with the UKsters having sold the last of their principles for dirty Russian money.

I see this was covered by a Scottish band named Texas in 1992, which made #19 in the UK.
From '88-'06, this band Texas was hot as a pistol in Europe especially France. I found their take on this quite fetching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2dA7e4Mfno << do check out their other stuff too, for example Elbow Parsley's "Suspicious Minds".: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5_Or9-bYhE Here's another take, by the Subdudes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g485i0dJnjw << you'd have to look long and hard to find a fakier, crappier vid but the playing's alright.
