About Eddie Lang: well first of all his name at home was Salvatore Massaro (cribbed from a comment--look at that beautiful Italian nose), then: it's so easy to apply filtering technology to clean up recordings that I view leaving surface noise in as a sort of fake authenticity. BTW he died at age 30 from a botched tonsillectomy. Damned shame.
