Knopfler is one hell of a guitarist !
Jerome Wrote:Todays lesson - how to blend electric guitar & piano perfectly in a rock track - this is beyond brilliant. Sends shivers down my spine when I listen to it. Incredible. http://youtu.be/3wtdFf5QLFw

Incredible. http://youtu.be/3wtdFf5QLFw here here! i totally agree with you here Jerome... Love Over Gold would definately be in the top5 albums i own...the lyrics are perfection, the music sublime, the production(to my amateur ears) is spot on, and the album cover artwork would be my #1 choice if someone asked me to name my favourite album cover.... Making Movies comes a close second in my choice of Dire Straits albums followed then by Brothers In Arms...your latest trick and the title track from that one are as good as any song ever recorded IMHO. Knopfler is often overlooked as a great writer and guitarist in those 'best of' lists that come out ocasionally, i could listen to his playing all day every day and not get bored, then we get his intrumentals...his soundtracks for "cal" and "local hero" are masterpieces IMO, and as you know im not a fan of instrumentals overall!!!!!!

![]() JOE BONAMASSA "black rock" cd, 2010 Corey recommended this one to me when it came out, he thought i'd enjoy the blues rock on here, and he was right...good man is Corey, well, he was until he gave me that stupid Itch-E and Scratch-E cd(see electronic section, what are you listening to)! now, im not a big fan of The Blues really, but i think my tastes may be changing as i am not a big fan of Clapton,Buddy Guy,BB King and i love this album... BB King plays guitar on this one and shares vocal duties on a track or two, Bonamassa covers Cohen's "bird on a wire" also...i love that song whoever usually singd it, but it only gets a like score because im still not sure "blues" treatment does this as much justice as it should really! a few really raunchy Blues tracks happening, and a few slowy 'bluesy' numbers also... what really pricked up my ears initially was the similar sound and feel the track "blues and evil" has to my favourite Led Zep track "kashmir"(one of the greatest rock tracks ever IMO)... so many great tracks on here, and im definately not what you'd call a blues-man, i will investigate this guy and his music a bit further at some point! sorry, no studio or proper live links here so i cant post any... I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: bird on a wire best track: look over yonders wall tracks: 1. steal your heart away *** 2. i know a place *** 3. when the fire hits the sky *** 4. quarryman's lament *** 5. spanish boots ** 6.bird on a wire ** 7. three times a fool *** 8. night life ** 9. wandering earth ** 10.look over yonders wall *** 11.athens to athens *** 12.blue and evil *** 13.baby you gotta change your mind *** 3s=9 2s=4 1s=0 rating: 2.7
